There is a classic Japanese dish called “gomaae,” in which ground sesame seeds are mixed with spinach, bok choy, burdock, etc.

I use peanut powder instead of sesame seeds. It adds aroma and richness to the plain vegetables, making it a great side dish.

On this day, I put it in my lunch box along with nikujyaga (Japanese) meat and potatoes stew and seasoned boiled eggs.

What kind of food is green beans??

In Japanese, green beans are “sayaingen“, another name is “sandomame”. Sandomame means beans that can be harvested three times a year.

Green beans are classified into several types, including dojyouingen (Kentucky Wonder), which has round pods, and Moroccoingen (Romano Beans), which has flat pods.

Green beans are in season in the summer, with most being available from June to September.

These can be made into tempura, boiled and then tossed with soy sauce or sesame seeds, or stir-fried with butter.

Kentucky Wonder and Romano Beans eat the pods, so beans cannot be harvested. The pods of red kidney beans and quail beans can only be eaten when they are very young. Basically, varieties for eating the pods and varieties for eating the beans are different.

Ingesting undercooked green beans can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea.

By the way, green beans and peas are closely related species.

  • green beans 70g
  • light soy sauce 6g
  • sugar 1g
  • powder peanuts 10g

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

① Wash the green beans with water and wipe dry.

② Line up the ends and cut off a little of the stem.

③ Cut into 3cm pieces, boil in hot water for 2 minutes, and drain into a colander.

After boiling, you can keep the beautiful green color by exposing it to water. However, since it gets watery, I don’t soak it in water and let it cool.

④ Mix soy sauce and sugar, heat in the microwave for 20 seconds, and let cool.

⑤ Mix green beans with soy sauce and sugar and wait 10 minutes.

⑥Add peanut powder.

If you add the peanuts first, the peanuts will absorb the seasoning. Therefore, mix the peanuts last.
