Hot Dog(ホットドッグ)

Whak kind of dish is Japanese Hot Dog with Salsa⁇

Wiener sausage, salsa sauce, and marinated purple cabbage are sandwiched between hot dog bun.

Ketchup and mustard are standard toppings for hot dogs, but in this recipe we’ve added a twist to the toppings.

Make the salsa sauce and marinated purple cabbage the day before so that the flavors will blend well.

The salsa sauce is simple, made with canned tomatoes and bell peppers, onions, and chili peppers.

Since jalapenos are hard to find in Japan, we add Tabasco to add spiciness.

Mixing a little curry powder into the marinated purple cabbage adds a broader flavor.

The sourness and aroma of pickles is also a nice accent.

Enjoy the fusion of flavors from the toppings.

What kind of food is Hot Dog??

A hot dog is a spindle-shaped piece of bread with a cut in it and a heated sausage sandwiched between them.

It was introduced to the United States from Germany, and today it has developed uniquely in each region, such as New England style, Chicago style, and French style, and is loved all over the world.

As a Japanese person, I was surprised that there were so many things I didn’t know about, such as the Chicago style, which doesn’t use ketchup, and the French style, where sausage is sandwiched between holes in a baguette.

I would like to make various styles of hot dogs (*˘︶˘♡)。.:*☆

The standard Japanese hot dog is a coppepan topped with sausage, ketchup, and mustard. Add vegetables such as cabbage and onions to personal preference.

Coppepan is the English word for “hot dog bun.” It is a spindle-shaped, flat-bottomed bread unique to Japan that can be held in one hand. “Pan” means “bread,” and “coppe” comes from the French coupé, which means “cut.”

The taste of coppepan itself is soft and earthy. This bread is very familiar to Japanese people as it is served in school lunches nationwide.

Japanese hot dog recipe COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

① Cut the purple cabbage into 2mm strips.

② Mix the purple cabbage and salt together, and squeeze out the water after 10 minutes.

③ Put the wine vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, garlic, chili pepper, and curry powder into a heat-resistant container and microwave for 30 seconds.

④ Add ice to cool, then marinate the purple cabbage.

⑤ Finely chop the onion, green pepper, and garlic.

⑥ Add the onion, green pepper, garlic, chili pepper, olive oil, canned tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, chili powder, Tabasco, wine, and vinegar to a frying pan and fry until the water evaporates.

⑦ Make cuts in the sausages and cook them thoroughly in the frying pan.

⑧ Place the marinated cabbage, sausages, and chopped pickles between pieces of bread, and top with cheese.

⑨ Bake in the toaster oven for 2 minutes.

I used Schau Essen’s special long sausage ♡ Schau Essen may be the most popular sausage brand in Japan. The crispy skin and juicy meat are irresistible.

When eating, the koppepan tends to tear and the ingredients tend to spill out. Wrapping it in wax paper makes it easier to eat.
