What kind of dish is Satumaimo Gohan??

A dish made by cooking rice and sweet potatoes together in a rice cooker.

Autumn is the season with so many delicious foods that it is said to be the autumn of appetite.

The rice harvested in autumn is called “new rice (新米=shin mai)” and has a lot of moisture, flavor and stickiness.

Rice is especially delicious at this time of year. Sweet potatoes are also in season in autumn.

It’s a perfect autumn dish with simple seasonings that let you enjoy the taste of the ingredients.

Sweet potatoes are easy to grow even in poor soil and are not easily damaged by typhoons, so cultivation in Japan has taken root.

This is a dish that has been made since ancient times, and some families use glutinous rice. When using glutinous rice, use 225g of rice and 75g of glutinous rice.

It doesn’t harden even after a long time and has a delicious chewy texture.

INGREDIENTS (5SERVINGS)

The recommended amount of rice is 60g per person. 1go is 150g of rice. When cooking rice, use 1.2 to 1.4 times the weight of the rice.

  • rice 300g (2go)
  • water 360g
  • sake 20g
  • salt 5g
  • furikake (sesame salt) 5g

The kind of sweet potato that I often use is “Kanta-kun”. It is a special product of Oita. Compared to general sweet potatoes, such as long-term storage, it is produced with a lot of effort. Sweetness like sweets is attractive.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

①Dice the sweet potato and soak in water for 10 minutes.

②Rinse the rice, put it in the rice cooker and add water.

Soak the rice for about 30 minutes when using rinse-free rice(無洗米).

③Add sake and salt and mix.

④Place the sweet potato on top of the rice and cook normally.

⑤Put the cooked rice on a plate and sprinkle with furikake.

Sprinkle with sesame salt to bring out the sweetness of the rice and sweet potato.
